NATCHEZ — A Natchez resident who lost his house in a February fire will get a little help from his friends Saturday during a fundraiser at the Vidalia Riverfront.
The fundraiser will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the amphitheater on the Vidalia Riverfront and will feature live music, an Easter egg hunt, various children’s games and silent auctions.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to Eric Barbato, who was in an intensive burn unit care for a month.
Rebecca Carlton, one of several fundraiser organizers, said Barbato doesn’t have medical or renter’s insurance and is attempting to piece his life back together.
“He lost everything and has no family here, so his friends started making these plans to help him,” Carlton said. “I know this small community pulls together anytime a tragedy happens, and we’re hoping they will come out this weekend.”
The Easter egg hunt will start off the day’s festivities at 10 a.m.
A dunking booth, inflatable jumper, face painting and cakewalk are among several activities.
The silent auction will feature several items, including a $600 painting and $500 voucher for a website design.
Chicken dinners including half a chicken, potato salad and baked beans will be available for $7, as well as a crawfish and Coke trailer for refreshments.
Cost for admission is $10 for adults, and children 12 and under can enter for free.
Carlton said she has already had an incredibly positive response from the Miss-Lou and hopes to see a large crowd on Saturday.
“It’s heartwarming to see so many people come together to help a person they don’t even know,” Carlton said. “I’m hoping everyone can come out, enjoy the beautiful weather and support this great cause.”
