NATCHEZ — Suspects in an alleged dogfighting case found themselves back in jail Friday, despite a December reprieve from the Adams County Justice Court.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Cornelius Dominque Baldwin, 26, of 2002 Lotus Drive and Lewis J. Jackson, 19, of 601 Old Washington Road, on a grand jury indictment charging both men with dogfighting.

Baldwin and Lewis were initially arrested in September 2011 for dogfighting after dep-uties found evidence at a Lotus Drive residence in the Lagrange subdivision.

At the Lotus Drive residence, deputies recovered six pit bulls and dogfighting par-aphernalia, including a bloody break stick that is used to pry the dogs apart during the fight and medicine used to treat wounds.

Three of the dogs had fresh wounds on their legs and heads.

Also taken into evidence was ointment used to treat wounds.

On Dec. 13, 2011, the case went before Justice Court Judge Patricia Dunmore who dismissed the charges against Baldwin and Lewis, who were then released.

District Attorney Ronnie Harper said shortly after charges were dismissed that he was reviewing action he could take to bring the case to a grand jury.

Baldwin and Lewis are being held without bond pending arraignment in Adams County Circuit Court.
