VIDALIA — The vacant seat for District 4B on the Concordia Parish School Board wasn’t empty long enough to get cold.

Formerly filled for two years by Daryle Price, the vacant seat was filled Thursday evening during a specially called meeting of the school board.

Price recently resigned the seat to take the office of the parish coroner, formerly filled by Dr. Sarah Lee, who opted not to seek re-election.

The board heard from two potential candidates Thursday — Angela Hayes and Jeffery Goodman — who had previously sent in letters of interest.

Hayes introduced herself to the board saying she had worked with the Concordia Parish School Board for two years and had also worked with Head Start for 17 years.

“I work with children and their families. I’m concerned about our children, and want to do everything I can to help assist them,” Hayes said. “I am a team player and look forward to helping.”

Jeffery Goodman told the board he had strong roots in the parish — only leaving for five years during college.

“I keep up with things in the community and interact with all of the families,” Goodman said. “I want to continue to show that interest and would be pleased to be a part of that process.”

After hearing from both candidates, the board unanimously voted to appoint Hayes as the interim member.

Hayes said she was pleased with the board’s decision.

“I’m very happy, and I look forward to working with the board,” Hayes said after the meeting. “I want to work with the board together as a team, and build that camaraderie with the board and the community.”

The board also approved having a special election for the unexpired term for district 4B in November.

Also on the ballot in November will be the district 5A seat, which was vacated by former board member Martha J. Rabb due to illness.
