Counting our eggs can be OK too

With little local fanfare, a biofuels company that’s been making waves in Mississippi since 2010 splashed on Adams County Monday.
KiOR announced it plans to locate one of several Mississippi production facilities in Natchez, leading to the employment of up to 300 workers and potentially investing $200 million at the port.
It’s the fourth major announcement since Natchez Inc. was formed, all before the economic development group’s second birthday.
Elevance and Enersteel — two of the first three announcements — are already producing products and paying local employees. HCL CleanTech is still in development.
Adding KiOR to the mix continues to prove that the move to create a public-private partnership to lead economic development efforts was a wise step.
Even if none of the developments are running at their predicted peak yet, Natchez Inc. has announced more companies promising more jobs and more money in a year than our community has seen in years and years.
Today, we celebrate the announcements. We’ll have to wait for tomorrow to celebrate the impact.
All area residents must realize that our area didn’t get into the economic shape it’s in overnight. We won’t recover in a day — or a year — either.
But with four eggs in the proverbial basket, we feel good that something’s about to hatch.
Congratulations, Natchez Inc. and its private funding source, Natchez Now. But most importantly congratulations Natchez-Adams County.
