Incumbent Arthur Lewis wins race for chief

VIDALIA — Arthur Lewis has won the race for Vidalia police chief, defeating Todd Ainsworth with 51.15 percent of the vote.

Lewis, the incumbent, received 869 votes. Ainsworth received 830 votes, or 48. 85 percent.

All four Vidalia precincts are reporting.

Lewis won a special election in April 2011, after filling the seat on an interim basis for five months.

In other Vidalia races:

The District 1 alderman race will head to a run-off after incumbent “Tron” McCoy was unable to obtain a majority. In fact, only two votes separated McCoy from challenger Frank Duson. McCoy received 167 votes, or 44.53 percent; Duson captured 165 votes or 44.0 percent.

District 2 Alderman Vernon Stevens handily defeated his challenger, Randy Young, and will retain his seat on the board. Stevens received 229 votes or 78.69 percent to Young’s 62 votes and 21.31 percent.
