VIDALIA — Voters in Concordia Parish will hit the polls Saturday to cast ballots in several local races and the presidential primary.

Polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

A total of 758 early votes — 638 in person and 120 by mail — were counted as of 2 p.m. Friday, said Registrar of Voters Golda Ensminger.

A total of 13,718 voters are eligible to cast ballots.

Ensminger said she wanted to remind voters they need to bring a picture I.D. with them in order to vote.

“We just want them to get out and vote,” Ensminger said. “It’s a privilege we still have, and we need to get out and exercise that right.”

Local races include Vidalia aldermen and police chief, Clayton aldermen, Ferriday mayor and Concordia Parish police jurors.

Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber said he thinks the police jury races will bring more voters to the polls and, hopefully, result in a 35 to 40 percent turnout.

“That’s pretty high for an election without the governor or the sheriff,” Webber said. “I think it will be a pretty good turnout.”

A primary for Ferriday aldermen elections will be a Nov. 6 with a general election on Dec. 1. The aldermen elections, scheduled for today, were delayed when the town did not get it’s redistricting plan approved in time.
