Allen, Sontoyo head to runoff for Ferriday mayor

FERRIDAY— Former Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen and Ferriday Fire Chief Joe Sontoyo will face one another in a runoff.

The duo were the no. 1 and no. 2 vote-getters after Saturday’s primary race which featured four men vying for the top spot. Allen earned 546 voteds or 45.54 percent, to Sontoyo’s 363 votes, or 30.28 percent.

Allen served as Ferriday mayor from 2004-2008 when he was defeated by incumbent Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin, who decided not to seek reelection this year.

Sontoyo is a 34-year veteran of the Ferriday Fire Department, serving as fire chief for the last eight years.

Justin “The Preacher” Conner garnered 220 votes and Ferriday Alderman Johnnie Brown received 70 votes.
