Auburn entertains musical memories

At 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening, Natchez, the surrounding area and its visitors will have a very unusual opportunity.

Auburn Antebellum Home will offer a presentation of music selections from the early 1800s.

While brainstorming ways in which to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the completion of the original Auburn structure by Levi Weeks for Lyman Harding, the membership began to realize that the 1911 Steinway piano which sits in the parlor is a rarity as well.

It may not be quite as old, but it is a magnificent instrument and wouldn’t it be wonderful to showcase it somehow?

Since none of the membership at Auburn is any kind of a musician and after much discussion, Donna Schaffer and Kathleen Mackey King were contacted.

Their enthusiasm and support of the idea of a performance of music, which would have been popular in the early 1800s is what has made this event possible.

With the addition of Vera and Anton Zholondz, they have prepared an evening of piano, violin, flute and vocals to be remembered.

If you are at all familiar with the credentials of these performers you will not want to miss this very intimate gathering, something much like one you may have attended at Auburn in 1812.

You will not only have their wonderful music, but there will also be time to “meet the artists” at an informal reception including refreshments following the performance.

Unfortunately, the number of tickets available is very limited due to seating restraints.

You will need to get your tickets early. They are $25 each through Natchez Pilgrimage Tours. Call 601-446-6631 or 800-647-6742.

We, the membership at Auburn Antebellum Home, are very excited to offer this rare event. Please come celebrate with us. You don’t want to miss this!
