Runs come easy in Rebels’ big win

NATCHEZ — The Adams County Christian School baseball team blasted River Oaks with 20 runs and 13 hits Saturday afternoon and came home with a 20-7 victory.

Christopher Perry led the Rebels offensively with three hits in three at-bats and two doubles. Jake Brumfield added three hits of his own, and Tanner Martin went 2-2 with a double.

ACCS head coach Hunter McKeivier said he was pleased with the way the Rebels played Saturday.

“We gave up seven runs early but a majority of that was due to walks,” McKeivier said. “We were really kind of giving our pitchers a lot of work today. I thought we hit the ball well, ran bases well and did a lot of situational hitting.”

Chris Carrell got the win for ACCS and also had a triple at the plate.

The Rebels improved to 7-2 and will travel to play in the Canton Academy Tournament Monday.

Cathedral, Trinity, WCCA baseball rained out Saturday

The Cathedral School baseball team was slated to face Porter’s Chapel on the road Saturday, but the game was canceled due to rain.

Cathedral is scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Monday against Tupelo Christian.

Rain cancelled Trinity Episcopal’s baseball game at CENLA Saturday.

The Saints are scheduled to take the field again Thursday at Amite School Center.

The Wilkinson County Christian Academy baseball team was scheduled to face Brookhaven Academy Saturday afternoon, but rain forced the game to be canceled.

The Rams are scheduled to play again at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Ben’s Ford.

Cathedral softball wins one, ties one

The Cathedral School softball team got a win and a tie Saturday afternoon at the Warren Central Tournament.

The Lady Green Wave faced Terry High School twice in the tournament and took game one 3-0 in five innings.

The second game between the two clubs was tied 3-3 at the end of four innings when it was called due to time limit.

Ginny Daggett was the winning pitcher for the Lady Wave in game one.

McKenzie Milligan had a big day at the plate for Cathedral. She went 2-3 in each game. Laura Ellett also had two hits for Cathedral in the first game.

Cathedral is now 4-1-1 on the season and will head to Gulf Shores, Ala., Monday to play in a tournament.

Vidalia bats stay hot, Lady Vikings win two Saturday

The Vidalia High School softball team put up 22 total runs Saturday in victories over Delhi Charter and Forest.

The Lady Vikings racked up 11 hits in their first game and defeated Delhi 10-5 behind three-hit performances by Kennedy Beard and Katlyn Thornton.

Beard, Thornton, Kelsee Partridge and Katelin Temple all doubled in the game for Vidalia.

The Lady Viking offense got even better in game two against Forest. Vidalia finished the game with 18 hits en route to a 12-6 win.

Beard and Thornton stayed hot in the second game. Beard went 3-5 with a double, and Thornton finished 4-5 with a double and a home run. Taylor Rodgers also had four hits in the second game for Vidalia.

Laura Perilloux won both games for the Lady Vikings, who improved to 9-5 on the season. They will face Jena at home Monday.

Natchez softball drops two

The Natchez High School softball team lost twice Saturday afternoon at the Warren Central Tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs fell 7-1 to Greenville St. Joe in the first game and lost 10-1 to St. Aloysius in game two.

Natchez coach Sharhonda Welch said her defense struggled in both loses.

“We just have to mold together as a team and learn how to play and get tougher on defense to help our pitchers out,” Welch said.

The loss dropped Natchez to 1-8 on the season. The Lady Bulldogs will face Vidalia Tuesday.
