“The best part is seeing how well we all work together and want to make our community looking nice,” she said.

Lacy Boykin with Keep Natchez-Adams County Beautiful said finding a starting point and getting to work was important to cleaning up the area and keeping it looking nice.

“You’ve got to start somewhere,” she said. “And it’s not a huge effort if everybody does a little bit. It goes a long way.”

Cathedral football coach Ron Rushing got his players involved in the cleanup day for their annual service project. The team worked at Duncan Park last year.

Rushing and the players, as well as the Liberty Road tree crew, worked to plant greenery and hauled in mulch and rocks to lay out gardens in the courtyards of the Margaret Martin Performing Arts Center.

Rushing said he believed it was important for him and his players to give back to the community that gives so much to Cathedral.

“The community does so much for us,” he said. “The players and students need to be involved in the community. We couldn’t do the things at Cathedral we do without community support.”

Cathedral junior football player Dakota Vaughan said it was only fair the players give back and show their appreciation for the community’s support.

“It’s the right thing to do, and we’re a bunch of able-bodied men, why not?” he said.

Carter said he believes if the community could spend just a few hours a year cleaning up the area, it would go along way.

“That’s all it took here, just a few hours,” he said. “And if we keep that up, there’s no doubt the community will look better. We all need to be involved.”
