Jesus, Elvis available to highest bidder

Elvis is in the house, at least on black velvet, that is.

The combination dining room/living room of Sissy’s house sports a painting of Elvis from his Las Vegas concert.

To help you visualize: white rhinestone-studded suit, jacket open to his waist.

We know the presence of Jesus is always with us. But, to provide additional comfort to the mourners at Peggy’s funeral, a tapestry of Jesus hangs over her coffin. He looks over the family and friends in an attempt to add an air of reverence to the service. It would take divine intervention to keep that crowd under control. I suspect Jesus is laughing rather than influencing as He watches over the group.

These locations are sets in the upcoming production at Natchez Little Theatre’s “Sordid Lives,” which runs from Wednesday through Sunday. This play promises to be unforgettable; so, to help you hold onto the memories, both items described will be auctioned after the Sunday matinee on Jan. 29. Don’t fret; you do not have to be present to bid. Bids can be submitted at any performance.

Also, a raffle of items, such as a night’s stay in a motel, target practice lesson and tuna casserole nonperishable ingredients, all relating to the story line of “Sordid Lives” is another fundraiser during the production.

Tickets will be on sale during each performance. The price will be $2 for one ticket or $5 for three tickets. The drawing for the raffle will take place at the end of intermission at the Sunday matinee.

Money raised from this auction and raffle will be used for repairs to Mayweather Hall. This is the building next to the theater in which furniture is stored that is used in the productions. It was originally the parsonage during the theater’s first life as Grace Methodist Church.

Please be generous and bid higher and higher; so, you can take home either Jesus or Elvis, or both.

And, buy more and more raffle tickets to increase your chances of winning this magnificent collection of items.
