VIDALIA — More than 13,000 prescription drug tablets worth an estimated $200,497 were recovered Tuesday by the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office in connection to the recent Monterey area burglaries.

Kory Crouch, 30, 738 Passman Road, was originally charged with four counts of burglary and one count of theft after a hunter in a wooded area near Crouch’s home found some of the stolen items such as copper wire, assorted tools and hunting items.

After continuing its investigation and search, the sheriff’s office found the narcotics and more stolen items like weapons, a laptop and two television sets.

“This is the largest amount of assorted pills that I’ve seen attributed to any one suspect in my 40 years of law enforcement,” remarked Sheriff Randy Maxwell. “We’re extremely fortunate that this was halted now before these drugs got out on the streets around the Miss-Lou.”

The prescription drugs had been sorted into small plastic bags and were found stored in plastic carrying cases that were concealed in the woods.

Crouch was booked Friday on 71 new drug and firearm-related charges.

The new charges include 57 counts of possession of scheduled II controlled dangerous drugs with intent to distribute, eight counts of possession of schedule III drugs with intent to distribute, five counts possession of schedule IV drugs with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs.

The pills included Xanax, Hdyrocodone, Oxycontin, Mepredine, Methadone, Adderall, Morphine, Endocef, Roxycodone, Dilaudid, Oxycodone and Oxymorphine.

Crouch allegedly began burglarizing camps, sheds and boathouses in December.

It is expected that Crouch will be tried in Seventh District Court and bond set on the 71 new charges on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Maxwell said the case was a team effort.

“I’m extremely grateful to everyone who has worked on this case,” Maxwell said. “This has taken an untold number of man hours, and everyone has worked extremely hard as it went from solving burglaries to discovering the huge amount of prescription drugs that were all prepared for distribution.”
