PERS was a promise, leave it alone

Recently I read a letter to the editor in the newspaper written by a friend of mine, Jerry McDaniel, titled “PERS was promised to us, keep it that way.”
Jerry, and many of my friends, were made a promise by the State of Mississippi concerning their retirement, and it appears there is a move on to disrupt the retirement system, which will impact him and former employees.
I have known Jerry for more than 50 years, and I can attest to his service, both with the Natchez Fire Department and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
He only writes to The Natchez Democrat when he is factual and passionate about something, especially his retirement and those enrolled in the PERS program.
There is an old adage that says, “if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it.” The PERS program is in good hands and the government officials should stay out of it.
