RIDGECREST — The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office is awaiting medical reports of a 1-year-old child who died Sunday after being injured in a traffic-related accident on Dec. 14.

Anthony B. Atkins died at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Atkins, who was being held by his mother, was reportedly injured by a passing vehicle’s side–view mirror while his mother walked on Cowan Street in Ridgecrest, according to a press release by the sheriff’s office.

The driver of the vehicle, Brandon Davis, 38, of Ridgecrest, immediately notified the sheriff’s office of the incident.

Sheriff Randy Maxwell said they will make a decision on charges once they receive the reports, which should arrive early next week.

“Our investigation is ongoing while we await all of the medical reports from the hospital,” Maxwell said. “We’re waiting on all the information before we conclude the investigation.”

Maxwell said he believes the reports will arrive early next week.
