NATCHEZ — More than 1,000 residents lost power early Sunday morning when a car struck an electrical pole on Martin Luther King Jr. and Concord streets.
Entergy Customer Service Manager Tim Runnels said Entergy restored power to all but 185 customers in less than an hour.
The outage occurred as the result of a broken electrical pole, which snapped when a car struck it, Runnels said.
Entergy received the first report of the outage at 5:01 a.m. Sunday.
Natchez Interim Police Chief Danny White said police responded to the single-car accident at 4:23 a.m.
The driver of the 1997 Mazda 626 was treated for injuries at a local hospital and released later that evening, White said. White said police took a blood sample from the driver to test for drugs and alcohol.
The remaining 185 customers went without power for almost seven hours before power was restored just before noon Sunday.
Also on Sunday, 50 customers lost power for approximately an hour near George F. West Boulevard, the result of a burning fuse switch that Entergy crews replaced.
