VIDALIA — The Ferriday Lady Trojans were winless in their first five games of the season heading into their battle with Concordia Parish rival Vidalia Friday night.
But a strong defensive effort in the first half to go with the performances of ShaKeria Kelly and MeElle Reed allowed Ferriday to defeat the Lady Vikings 56-45 to finally pick up that elusive first win.
Kelly led all scorers with 20 points and Reed was right behind her with 19 points for Ferriday. The Lady Trojans held Vidalia to just 14 points in the first half en route to a 26-14 halftime lead. Even thought the Lady Vikings were able to put up 19 points in the third quarter, they were not able to put much of a dent into the Lady Trojans’ lead.
The Lady Trojans (1-5) play at Franklin Parish Tuesday night. The Lady Vikings (1-4) will be playing against an opponent to be determined on Monday in the Caldwell Tournament, which will be Dec. 15-17.
