Let’s stop school zone speeding

On Monday, Nov. 28, I read an article with the headline, “Miss. law seen as weak,” about animal cruelty.
I am a crossing guard at McLaurin Elementary School, and I think that the law is weak with people and the school zones.
People leave home late, and they pass through school zones flying. They don’t have any respect for the kids at the school or the parents who are entering and leaving the school — or for me.
Then you have those who are determined to come through and not stop.
The law says that you can’t give a car a ticket. Illinois had the same law until people got tired of loved ones getting killed and hurt.
The state changed that law, and if anyone gives the police a tag number of someone not respecting the school zone laws, the owner of that car gets the ticket unless they could prove they weren’t driving the vehicle.
If you don’t know where your car is between 6 and 8 a.m. or 2 and 4 p.m., you should have had it reported stolen.
There should not be any children hit by an automobile in a school zone anywhere in the United States, because all over the country, school starts in August or September and ends in May or June. We should know when school is in session.
I wish people with children in the schools would write their state representatives and demand a change to that law.
