Maxwell said the sheriffs’ office received a call from a hunter that said he thought he had spotted Ashlock.

“I’m grateful that they called and that nobody was hurt,” Maxwell said. “The public played a vital role because they were aware something was going on and helped us find him.”

Ashlock was wanted in Avoyelles Parish for theft of a large amount of a cash from a business and attempting to run over deputies when they approached him Friday afternoon. Ashlock fled traveling through Pointe Coupee Parish and into Concordia before crashing his vehicle and going into the woods in southern Concordia.

“At the end of the day if you make bad choices, you have to pay the price,” Maxwell said.
