Let’s not be sexist with city property

Dear editors, in the Friday, Dec. 2 edition of The Natchez Democrat, on page 3-A, in the far left column under the heading, Regional Digest, there was printed the following headline: “Manhole covers stolen from City of Natchez.”

Although at an earlier time in this nation’s history this may have been acceptable, I feel as though this sort of gender-biased story headline in the present culture is inappropriate.

To be fair to all, it should instead have read “Personhole covers stolen from the City of Natchez” in order to reflect a more modern trajectory not only for Natchez, but for the whole of Mississippi as well.
