Parish qualifying opens soon

VIDALIA — Qualifying will take place next week for police jury, municipal offices and political party committees in Concordia Parish.
Qualifying will be Dec. 7 through 9 at the clerk’s office in the parish courthouse. Hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec 7 and 8 and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 9.
The fee to qualify for police jury as a Democrat or Republican is $230 and the cost for an independent is $115.
The fee for a municipal office is $80 for a Democrat or Republican and $40 for an independent.
Primary elections will be March 24 and general elections will be April 21.
Races for municipal office will include mayor, chief or police and alderman in Clayton and Vidalia, as well as mayor and aldermen in Ferriday.
Qualifying will also take place for Democratic State Central Committee, Republican State Central Committee, Democratic Parish Executive Committee and Republican Parish Executive Committee.
All nine seats on the Concordia Parish police Jury are open for qualifiers. The election was originally set for this fall, but the jury failed to submit its redistricting plan in time for U.S. Department of Justice approval. The plan has now been approved and elections will be this spring.
