NATCHEZ — What better way to lift local turkeys out of a post-Thanksgiving slump than to get the blood pumping for a 5K on the cool and breezy bluff?

Runners and walkers are hitting the streets Nov. 26 for the second annual Turkey Trot sponsored by Natchez Regional Medical Center, First Natchez Radio Group and Leadership Natchez.

Preregistration for the 5K run, 5K walk and one-mile fun run ends Monday.

Organizer Rene Adams said the event will give residents and their out-of-town relatives something fun to wake up for the morning before the Christmas tree lighting.

The preregistration fee is $20 for the 5K and $5 for the one-mile fun run. Registration includes a T-shirt and race number.

Race day registration will be at 8 a.m. the day of the race at the bluff, and prices will be $25 for the 5K and $10 for the fun run.

Both races will start and end on the Natchez bluff near the gazebo. The 5K will start at 9 a.m. and the fun run will kick off at 10 a.m.

Entry forms can be filled out at the Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce or mailed to the chamber at P. O. Box 1403, Natchez, MS.

Proceeds will help the Christmas in Natchez nonprofit group fund downtown Christmas light displays, trot organizer David Carter said.
