Health care is not unconstitutional

In it’s editorial Tuesday The Democrat called President Obama’s health care law unconstitutional, calling the requirement that citizens must purchase health insurance or pay a penalty “somehow un-American.”

My goodness. How does The Democrat feel about the law requiring all drivers to purchase liability insurance? Un-American?

What about the law requiring all of us to wear seat belts? How about laws requiring us to pay sales taxes and income taxes?

Those laws haven’t always existed in this country. They had to be passed by various legislative and congressional bodies. Unpleasant, yes, but un-American? Ever since Harry Truman proposed health care legislation more than 60 years ago I’ve waited for it to happen.  It finally did. Now it’s up to the Supreme Court to decide if it’s constitutional. Not The Democrat, thank goodness.
