Mental capacity doesn’t determine status

Why have I never, ever, been invited to a fetus shower?
Why do we ask a young pregnant couple if they’ve decided what to name their zygote?
If the qualification for personhood designation is dependent on our mental capacity, are brilliant people more human than those of average or lesser intelligence?
I sincerely hope that should Mr. Ed Field ever find himself old, disabled and perhaps no longer able to recognize even family members, that those who are caring for him do not subscribe to his theory.
It would not go well for him to be considered no longer a person.
