VICKSBURG — Mallory Lancaster hit a pair of doubles while Katie Steele and Ashleigh Williams combined to pitch a three-hitter as Trinity Episcopal took care of Porter’s Chapel 11-0 in five innings Monday afternoon.

Lancaster went 2-for-3 and her two doubles drove in three runs as the Lady Saints scored seven runs in the final two innings to 10-run rule the Lady Eagles after five innings of play.

“Actually, we came out a little bit flat early on. But as the game progressed, we found a little energy. We hope to use this game as a tune-up for our game against Brookhaven Academy (today),” Trinity head coach Chris Hutchins said.

After both teams failed to score in the first inning, Trinity took the lead for good by scoring four runs in the top of the second inning. The Lady Saints tacked on three runs in the top of the fourth inning to go ahead 7-0 and then put the 10-run rule in affect by scoring four runs in the top of the fifth.

Christina Givens had a double that drove in two runs. Mary Kate Huber and Randa Morace each had an RBI double with Morace going 2-for-3. Tali Beard was 2-for-3 with an RBI single.

Porter’s Chapel had one last chance to keep the game going in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Ashleigh Williams shut the door down by putting the Lady Eagles down in order.

Steele allowed no runs on three hits, struck out five and walked none in four innings to pick up the win.

“Katie was steady, as she has been all season,” Hutching said. “She kept her pitch count down. We had a goal of about 60 pitches, but she only got to 40 pitches through four innings. We took her out so she could get some rest for (today).”

Williams struck out two of the three batters she faced in the bottom of the fifth.

“Ashleigh threw well. Her maturity on the mound has been very good. She finished the game with two strikeouts and a groundout. She realizes she doesn’t have to strikeout everyone,” Hutchins said. “She’s just an eighth-grader, but when she’s in the strike zone, she’s awfully good. She’s beginning to trust her pitches. Ashleigh trusts the defense’s ability to make the out when they need to.”

Trinity Episcopal (7-9) hosts Brookhaven Academy today for Senior Night in a critical MAIS District 5-AA game. The junior varsity game gets under way at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m. The Lady Saints will need a win and some help to advance to the Class AA South State Tournament.

FRANKLINTON, La. — Ariana Bigner gave Bowling Green School fits both on the mound and at the plate and Laramie Greer hit a two-hit home run to lead the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers past the Lady Buccaneers in five innings Monday night.

Lady Tigers head coach Mark Mann said the win would most likely give them a second-place finish in the district standings. He added that some teams still have two district games that could still determine whether Centreville will make the Class AA South State Tournament in a week and a half from Tuesday.

Bigner was the winning pitcher as she allowed just one run on two hits, struck out five and walked only one in five innings. She helped her own cause by going 4-for-4 with two doubles.

Greer’s two-run home run highlighted the Lady Tigers’ five-run rally in the top of the fourth inning that gave them a 9-1 lead. They would score two runs in the top of the fifth to make it an 11-1 game and Bigner kept Bowling Green off the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via the 10-run rule.

Renee Miley went 2-for-3 with a double, Greer ended up going 2-for-4, and Katie Berry was 2-for-4 with a triple.

Centreville Academy hosts Trinity Episcopal for Senior Night next Monday with the JV game at 6 p.m. and the varsity game at 7:15 p.m.
