Newcomer’s are here to welcome you

I moved to Natchez in January 2010 not knowing what to expect.
My daughters visiting me at the time said, “Momma, we want you to embrace the culture,” and so I did.
My first cultural experience was at the Newcomer’s Club coffee at beautiful Twin Oaks. Our hostess Regina Charboneau and many ladies had been busy for hours to make this event elegant and inviting in every way. At this coffee, I met three ladies who have become my dearest friends.
As my involvement in Newcomer’s progressed by attending monthly coffees, luncheons and other outings, I soon began to feel very much a part of this club and this historic Southern town, so much so that this year I will be president of Newcomer’s.
Did you know that Newcomer’s was founded in 1949 by Margaret Parsons and has welcomed people to Natchez for 61 years in various ways? One of those ways was a welcome-wagon lady who would actually visit people’s homes laden with coupons, goodies, maps, etc., to make the new resident’s transition easier. We plan to continue this idea with creation of a brochure and other connection means to continue to welcome women into the community.
Did you know the monthly business meeting at The Vue on the third Wednesday of the month is another connection for new relationships and also a time in which we will, through a topical speaker, inform you of what is available in Natchez to make your stay a happy and interesting one? Also Belk and Katie’s Ladies will do a style show so you know where to go in Natchez to look great for every occasion.
Did you know we have planned several charity events: canned goods for the Stewpot, an auction for a local charity and end-of-the-year donations to local charities?
Come and be a part of us. For just $20 you can participate in all our events, meet new people, make new friends, participate in a charitable cause, support your community and above all, “Be a part of the culture.”
You will be so glad you did!
Our first cocktail party will be at the home of Bob and Anne Nix at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16. Or, join us for our first luncheon at The Vue at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28. The luncheon will include a style show from Katie’s.
