NATCHEZ — A man has been charged with statutory rape after a 15-year-old’s parents reported finding him having sex with their son Friday morning, Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
The complainant reported that he and his wife left their 15-year-old son and two younger children in the care of the suspect, Herald Jason Cowan, 35, 117 Cowan Road, Clayton, who his wife had reportedly known for many years, Mullins said.
Upon arriving home at approximately 1 a.m., Mullins said, the complainant reported that as he and his wife walked by a window they saw Cowan having sex with their son.
“They went into the house and restrained the suspect and called the police,” Mullins said.
Officers arrived and arrested Cowan, who was charged with one count of statutory rape. Police found that he had been convicted of indecent behavior with a juvenile in March in Catahoula Parish.
No bond has been set.
