VIDALIA — A string of events that led up to an alleged drive-by shooting has left five men behind bars at the Concordia Parish jail.

Vidalia Chief Investigator Randy Stockman said Cavada C. Madison, 22, 708 Demby St., Forest Williams Jr., 19, 703 Demby St. and Don Edward Owens, 21, 72 Brennen Ave., were reportedly standing on an unspecified street Saturday when Artice R. McCray, 22, 114 Lenwood Drive and Raylon Q. Hawkins, 24, 500 Sycamore St., drove up in a vehicle.

Madison, Williams and Owens allegedly hit the vehicle with bats and rocks, Stockman said, causing damage.

On Tuesday, Hawkins and McCray were again together in a vehicle when they noticed Williams, Owens and Madison together in the vicinity of Davis Street, Stockman said.

While McCray drove the vehicle, Hawkins leaned out of the window and fired four to six shots, but no one was hit.

Williams and Owens turned themselves in to Vidalia police Wednesday, Hawkins and McCray turned themselves in Thursday and Madison was arrested at his residence Thursday without incident, Stockman said.

Stockman gave no indication that the incident was gang-related.

“You want to say it’s uptown, downtown, but it’s just an ongoing issue,” he said.

Williams and Owens were each charged with felony criminal damage to property with no bond set until arraignment.

McCray was charged with principal to assault by drive-by shooting with no bond set until arraignment.

Madison was charged with two counts of felony criminal damage to property with no bond set until arraignment, and Hawkins was charged with aggravated assault by drive-by shooting.
