BUDE — A fire consumed the second floor of Fox Run Apartments in Bude early Saturday evening.

Franklin County Sheriff James Newman said his office received a 911 fire call around 4:15 p.m. The local fire department responded to the call, with assistance from Meadville, East Franklin Rural Volunteer Fire Department, Fire District 5 and two units from Lincoln County.

The sheriff said the fire started in a kitchen.

“The origin of the fire was allegedly a 15-year-old boy was cooking chicken or something — it was grease fire,” Newman said. “It consumed the second floor — probably 10 apartments.”

Newman said residents were able to get out of the apartment building safely, but there was one injury.

“One local fireman was injured,” Newman said. “He got pretty hot. But he was checked out and he will be OK.”
