NATCHEZ — Adams County’s maintenance supervisor pleaded not guilty June 9 of embezzling an air-conditioning unit from the county and selling it to a church, court documents say.
James Allen Jones, 52, 43 Kingston Road, waived a formal reading of the grand jury indictment of his charge June 8, the day before his arraignment was scheduled.
The indictment alleges Jones sold a $935 county-owned 5-ton air-conditioning unit to the Sunflower Baptist Church for $1,607.08 in August 2008.
Jones, 52, 43 Kingston Road, was arrested Dec. 15 on the embezzlement charges.
The case is being handled by the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office.
Pamela Ferrington was assigned as Jones’ defense attorney.
Jones remains on administrative leave without pay, on which he was placed several months before his arrest during the investigation.
