FERRIDAY — The suspect in a Ferriday armed robbery got lucky enough to escape authorities three times, but ultimately he was snakebit –literally.

Darius Johnson was arrested in Avoyelles Parish earlier this week after officers patrolling in the area noticed a warrant for his arrest.

According to reports from the Ferriday Police Department, Johnson fled the Avoyelles Parish officers into the woods where he made a successful escape.

While he was in the woods, Johnson was bit by a snake and sought medical attention after the search for him had ceased.

Hospital officials contacted the Avoyelles Parish officers after he sought the help, and Johnson was arrested at the hospital.

FPD officer Clarence Hall said Johnson will be brought back to the FPD today

Hall said on June 7, Johnson allegedly went to 301 Fifth St. in Ferriday, where he proceeded to knock on the door.

When a lady came to the door, Hall said Johnson pointed a revolver at her and forced his way into the house.

Hall said Johnson kept asking the lady where all the money was as he walked toward the back of the house.

While Johnson was at the back of the house, Hall said the female in the house ran outside to her neighbor’s house where she contacted the authorities.

Hall said Johnson fled the scene and escaped before FPD could arrive.

Hall said FPD officers spotted Johnson again June 10. When officers tried to arrest Johnson, he fled and escaped into the woods.

Hall said officers had not seen or heard from Johnson until Avoyelles Parish officials contacted them.
