NATCHEZ — Three men were arrested Tuesday evening in connection with a Saturday morning murder that left 17-year-old Quinton B. Brown shot to death in the Natchez City Cemetery.
Adrian Kentrell Williams, 20, 838 Martin Luther King Jr. St., was charged with murder, Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
Charged with accessory to murder was Denzel Markeith Fort, 19, 215 Prince St., and Keldrick Dontae Washington, 20, 510 North Union St., Apt. 3.
Mullins said the suspects and victim apparently all knew each other and had been acquaintances for some time. He would not elaborate on the nature of their acquaintanceship.
Brown suffered five shots, three to his chest, one to his back and one to his head.
“We have not determined a clear motive yet. (The motive) is still under investigation,” Mullins said.
Evidence shows Brown was killed at the cemetery between 2 and 3 a.m. Saturday, Mullins said. A passerby discovered the victim’s body at 7 a.m.
Mullins said a weapon found at the crime scene belonged to the victim. Six other handguns were also recovered — the result of searching a van near the scene, two occupied houses and two abandoned houses.
Three of the handguns were recovered from an abandoned house on Claiborne Street following the arrests.
“Whether or not one of those handguns was used to kill (the victim), it is still under investigation,” Mullins said.
NPD Investigator Lt. Craig Godbold said each of the weapons recovered was connected to the suspects.
Ballistics tests are currently being conducted at the Mississippi State Crime Lab, he said.
Mullins said the van in which one of the weapons was found was parked outside the cemetery gate Saturday morning. The cemetery gate was locked, he said.
Police believe Washington and Fort were at the cemetery with Williams and the victim at the time of the alleged murder, Godbold said.
People under 21 cannot legally purchase a handgun in Mississippi. Mullins said the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives could take weeks to investigate where the guns were sold. Police will then further investigate how the victim or suspects obtained the guns.
Mullins said evidence thus far shows the three suspects, who were arrested at approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday, were the only suspects involved in the murder.
“Investigators worked virtually around the clock since the shooting interviewing witnesses and potential suspects,” Mullins said.
“We are confident at this point that we have the only three individuals involved in the murder.”
None of the suspects will receive a bond until their arraignments, which should be either today or Thursday, Mullins said.
