Humane Society shouldn’t make change

Tony Byrne wrote an enlightening Top of the Morning article on Sunday, concerning the proposed new building for the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society.

Thank you, Tony, for bringing this matter to light. Yes, we desperately need a new shelter building. Vidal Davis spearheaded the campaign to raise funds to build and operate this new shelter. I was one of many volunteers who asked neighbors and friends to donate money. I also gave copies of the proposed new building plans and its location to everyone I contacted so that they would know where their contributions were going. Other volunteers did the same.  People in Mississippi, Louisiana and even other states were most generous with their donations. Recently we heard through the “grapevine” that the NACHS board of directors has decided not to use the plans or the site that was donated. Instead, we heard they have changed both the plans and the site. All the donations from friends and neighbors that I contacted, and the donations by my family, were contributed with the belief they would be used for the original building plans and site.

I am not happy that the NACHS board of directors has decided to go off on their own with a different location and building plans.
