NATCHEZ — A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly firing 13 bullets through his motel-room door from the inside.
The incident occurred at the Travel Inn on 271 D’Evereux Drive and was apparently the result of dispute between two or more people, Police Chief Mike Mullins said.
A Travel Inn employee who believed the motel was the target of a shooting reported the incident at 7:48 p.m.
Mullins said the man who fired his Glock 23 was arrested and may face charges of discharging a firearm within city limits.
The responding officer first saw four holes in a balcony wall in front of Room 263 before spotting Jimmy N. Pruitt, 47, standing on the balcony with a black handgun holster on his right hip.
The officer told Pruitt to lie down and a second officer handcuffed him and arrested Pruitt.
Pruitt waived his Miranda Rights to an attorney and reportedly told police an unknown subject kicked in his door and began drawing a gun before the shots went off. Pruitt said he back-fisted the man and drew his gun when the unknown subject closed the door and fled the scene, the report says. Pruitt said he then fired directly at the door.
Police reportedly found 13 bullet holes in the door, four holes in the balcony wall and two holes in the motel’s privacy fence.
Police said Pruitt appeared to be intoxicated. Both of his hands were cut, and his right hand was swollen. Located in the room was a cooler of beer and half a bottle of Wild Turkey bourbon, the report says.
