AKA teen summit was success

In an effort to reach the large portion of young people affected by crises, Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. came up with the idea of a teen summit to address some of the issues facing our young people.
Other Greek letter organizations in the Miss-Lou were contacted to partner with us in this collaborative initiative. They all answered with enthusiasm, service and finances. After weeks of meeting to plan this event, the vision came to fruition on April 2 at the ASU School of Nursing from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
The attendance was phenomenal! This event impacted more than 300 teens, parents and organizations, and has received rave reviews from the community.
The break-out sessions were truly beneficial and informative. The teens received information on bullying, gangs, cyberspace, dressing for success, academic excellence, teen dating and the various types of abuse.
Please allow me this space to offer many, many thanks to the following speakers and presenters: Ms. Delores Irving, the Rev. Michael Brown, Mr. Gregg Marshall, Mr. Tom Borum, Mr. Larry Hooper, Mrs. Rhonda Dixon Conner, Mrs. Joyce Jackson, Ms. Sandra Davis and Mr. Desmond Stewart.
I would like to offer thanks, also, to other sponsors: Alcorn State University, Natchez Convention Center, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
We, the members of Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., are grateful for the positive responses we received and hope that we can make this an annual event.
