NATCHEZ — Local author Greg Iles was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center Monday night for injuries to the lower leg he sustained in a car accident, Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.
Iles collided with a pick-up truck in the northbound lane of U.S. 61 South near Kingston Road at approximately 7 p.m., Mayfield said.
The driver of the Ford truck, Elizabeth Moore, 19, 960 Liberty Road, Natchez, also sustained severe injuries and was transported to UMC by ambulance for a punctured lung, broken ankle, broken ribs and possibly a broken leg, Mayfield said.
A friend of Iles, Dr. Roderick Givens, said Iles sustained other minor injuries from the car accident, but his only severe injuries were to his leg.
Mayfield said the Adams County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the accident, and Mississippi Highway Patrol handled the investigation.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to a Highway Patrol press release. Iles’ Audi appeared to have entered traffic in the northbound lane of traffic when it was struck in the left side by the front of the northbound Ford, the release says.
