NATCHEZ — A former resident of Carpenter Apartments has been charged with arson in connection to a fire that started at the complex last week.
Ntianu Uzoamaka Long, 61, was arrested Saturday.
Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said police had mounted enough evidence for probable cause and arrested “Tia” Long, who was renting the apartment and was at the station for questioning.
Mullins said the case was still under investigation Saturday evening and would not release any more information.
Long is reportedly on several medications, but Mullins said Saturday that jailers are aware of Long’s needs, and she is not being denied medical care.
Long was in the process of moving out of her apartment on 702 North Union St., when the apartment caught fire early Tuesday morning.
Fire crews arrived in time to contain the fire to the single apartment, but other apartments in the unit suffered smoke damage, and the apartment below Long’s suffered water damage.
Mullins said Tuesday when firefighters forced entry to the locked apartment they found a lot of debris and four points of origin for the fire.
