Alcorn State student killed in accident

FAYETTE — One Alcorn State University student is dead and another is in the hospital following a Jefferson County wreck early Friday morning.
At 3:12 a.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a wreck on Mississippi 552 involving a 2007 Ford Mustang leaving the road to the left and hitting a tree, according to a Troop M press release.
The driver, Marvin L. McCray, 20, of Indianola, was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Peter Walker.
The passenger, Victor Smith, 19, of Moorehead, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to River Regional Hospital in Vicksburg with moderate injuries.
Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
