Meadville — An elderly man who reportedly went missing from his residence in Meadville Sunday afternoon was found in Florida Tuesday, safe and sound.

Jack Nixon, 89, of Meadville, went missing at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday after Nixon decided he wanted to go to the grocery store close to his house.

Deputy Sheriff Dave Blackwell with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said Nixon was found in Marion County, Fla., at approximately 3 a.m. and was safely detained by officers there.

Blackwell said Nixon was just trying to go pick up a few items from a neighboring town.

After Nixon did not return from his trip during the time he normally would, family members contacted the FCSO, Blackwell said.

Blackwell said it was Nixon’s age that led to his 500-mile journey to central Florida instead of the grocery store one town over.

Blackwell said Nixon’s family has made contact with the man, and will be reunited with him when Nixon arrives back in Meadville.
