NATCHEZ — A man suspected of stealing an elderly woman’s purse with so much force that he knocked her to the ground is in police custody.
David L. Coleman, 39, 714A Lower Woodville Road, was charged with robbery Tuesday afternoon.
Natchez Police officers aided by Adams County Sheriff’s deputies picked Coleman up at his house Tuesday morning.
“We had tips from people (Monday) that saw the vehicle,” Police Chief Mike Mullins said. “And the vehicle was behind the house.”
The suspect in the robbery reportedly fled the scene in the green Ford Expedition police have now seized.
Coleman, who Mullins said has a lengthy criminal history of misdemeanors including one domestic violence charge, is in jail with no bond until his arraignment.
The robbery occurred at approximately 2 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot outside Southside Market. The victim, an 87-year-old woman, fell suffering a broken arm and facial abrasions.
The robber got away with the purse, $7 and a few personal items.
