NATCHEZ — The Salvation Army reported four break-ins in three years to the Natchez Police, all within the last six months.
The first reported burglary was of an air conditioning window unit on June 1.
On Aug. 30, the non-profit agency reported a burglary of a box fan, lawn mower and microwave oven but said no doors or windows were found damaged.
On Oct. 11, a fax machine estimated at $200 was stolen. The employee reporting the crime said the front door was open when she arrived, but there was no other damage.
And on Nov. 1, miscellaneous clothing was taken. Screws from the metal siding of the building were removed to gain entry.
The Salvation Army closed its Natchez doors Monday, citing low thrift store sales and high crime.
Natchez Police Chief said no break-ins had been reported within the last three years prior to June 1.
A malicious mischief was reported once in 2008 and 2009 and twice in 2010.
The Salvation Army will provide supplies and gifts to local residents already chosen for the Angel Tree program this year, but after that obligation is complete all other services will cease.
