SMART recognizes Natchez Transit System program

Natchez — The Southwest Mississippi Accessible Regional Transportation organization recently hosted a town hall meeting in Natchez.
Representatives from 16 counties routinely meet to discuss ways to enhance and coordinate public transportation needs in the area
The group highlights success throughout the region, including extended hours and days of operation by the Natchez Transit System and Simpson County transit.
The central focus of the recent meeting was the viewing of a PBS documentary on the Natchez Transit System. The segment titled “Changing the way people look at public transit” was developed to increase public awareness of the efficient transportation options offered in the area. The PBS segment featured residents from within the community who use the system to address basic transportation needs for shopping, health care, employment add educational opportunities.
Sabrena Bartley, executive director of the Natchez Transit System recognized Kenneth Watson, a driver for the system, and Peggy Polk, Robert Adams and Geraldine Jefferson, who were among those featured in the documentary. They were all presented with certificates at the meeting.
Representatives from the pubic transit division of the Mississippi Department of Transportation, Charles Husband and Makida Zachary, also hosted a question and answer session for those in attendance.
