NATCHEZ — Adams County’s new $15,000 investment in a pavement-sealing machine should add 10 years to the life of roads, supervisors said.
Adams County Board of Supervisors President Darryl Grennell said the equipment will be the best investment for the county since the supervisors purchased a pothole patcher.
The board voted in a specially called meeting Wednesday to authorize the purchasing clerk, Frances Bell, to buy the street sealing equipment.
Grennell said the purchasing clerk will decide whether it is appropriate to take bids for the equipment.
Grennell said the product guarantees the sealing process will extend a road’s life 10 years.
The machine fills cracks and creates a seal, preventing water from oxidizing and weakening road surfaces.
Grennell said the new sealing machine will be used on the roads included in the current road overlay plan as well as existing roads.
In other business at the meeting, the board met with Natchez, Inc. Executive Director Chandler Russ for approximately one-and-a-half hours.
Russ discussed the expansion of a local business with the board in the closed session, he said after the meeting.
Russ said he wanted to speak to the board in executive session because he has entered into confidentiality agreements in his previous job and felt it necessary discuss the matter in private.
