NATCHEZ — Nearly two inches of rain fell on the Miss-Lou Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, prompting Concordia Parish to lift its burn ban.

The Adams County burn ban is part of a statewide ban, which has not been lifted by the governor’s office.

The State of Louisiana is also still under a burn ban, but Police Jury Melvin Ferrington said he felt it was safe to lift the ban for Concordia Parish.

“I talked to the fire chief this morning, and we both agreed we’d had enough rain,” Ferrington said. “But you still need to be very particular when burning.”

Ferrington cautioned that weeks of rainless days have left the land dry, and patches of dryness may still remain.

National Weather Service reports from the Natchez area recorded 1.43 inches of rain between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. Additional rain fell earlier in the evening.

The parish has been under a burn ban since Oct. 2. The Mississippi ban began Oct. 6.
