NATCHEZ — Two women associated with the May robbery of Britton & Koontz Bank pleaded guilty Sept. 30 to their involvement in the robbery and were sentenced to serve one year of house arrest.

Mamie R. White and Jellena Ivory pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to armed robbery and received five years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with one year to be served on house-arrest and the remaining four on post-released supervision.

Assistant District Attorney Walt Brown said Judge Forest “Al” Johnson’s opinion that the defendants were nonviolent and low-risk was noted in his explanation for the sentence.

White and Ivory were also ordered to pay court costs and other fees. They were not required to pay restitution.

The May robbery was the city’s first bank robbery in nearly 20 years. A masked man entered the bank on U.S. 61 North.

Six people were arrested in connection to the robbery — Lyndon B. Ivory, Jellena Ivory, Mamie R. White, Elbert J. Dukes, William E. Baker and Travis Parker.

Ivory, 58, 165 Cloverdale Road, is the mother of the Lyndon B. Ivory, whose trial for his involvement in the robbery is set for Nov. 23.

Mamie White is the sister of Jellena Ivory.

Dukes was indicted for armed robbery and his trial date is Nov. 16.

Baker was originally charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

In unrelated cases, five people were arraigned Thursday on grand jury indictments for writing bad checks to the Isle Of Capri Casino in December 2009.

Johnson said each of the cases is separate, but each involves charges of uttering a forgery for amounts between $1,200 and $1,500 between Dec. 4 and Dec. 7 of last year.

The trial for Mary Denise Jones is set for Nov. 19. Erica Holmes’s trial is set for Nov. 18. Maurice Griffin’s trial is set for Nov. 10. Marvin Jones’ trial is set for Nov. 24.

In a separate case, Johnson set the trial date for a man indicted for 40 counts of child pornography for Nov. 19.

Alfred Roy Smith, 44, 7 Longmire Road, received the indictment in August for charges relating to his July 2009 arrest.

Attorney General Jim Hood said in a 2009 statement multiple images of child pornography were found in the (Smith’s) home.

Each of Smith’s three possession charges carries a minimum of five years, and a maximum of 40 years, with the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Johnson said the attorney general will be handling Smith’s case.
