FERRIDAY — Mayor Glen McGlothin doesn’t want anyone worrying about him, not even for a second.

McGlothin was recently diagnosed with colon cancer, but said his doctor is confident an upcoming surgery will be successful.

“I trust my doctor with my life, and I just can’t let it worry me,” McGlothin said Tuesday. “It’s not pleasant to think about it, but I know I’ve got lots of good friends praying.

“And it can’t be any worse than Vietnam.”

McGlothin is continuing his day-to-day duties as mayor, especially overseeing work on a new water plant.

“I’m fine,” he said. “I’m not going anywhere. I refuse to leave before the water plant is done.”

McGlothin’s surgery is scheduled for Oct. 11.
