NATCHEZ — A Parent University at 5:30 tonight welcomes parents of both public and private school children to Natchez High School to teach parents how to keep up with their child’s homework and graduation status and provide some entertainment and a light dinner, Natchez-Adams School District Parent Center Supervisor Angelita L. Jones said.

After a brief introduction in the auditorium, parents are invited to attend two 45-minute break-off sessions in classrooms to address their child’s specific needs.

The sessions will focus on math/algebra, English/language arts, reading, science/biology, history/AP History, physical education and foreign languages.

Natchez-Adams School District teachers will lead the sessions, along with some administrative staff members.

Jones said parents should choose which session to attend based on areas in which their child needs the most help. Parents might also choose to attend a session led by their child’s teacher.

In addition, a Supplemental Education Service Provider Vendor Fair will offer information about after-school services for students who qualify for them from Robert Lewis Middle School and Morgantown Elementary.

The services are geared toward classified “improvement schools,” and to students at Robert Lewis and Morgantown who have shown difficulty in scoring proficiently in certain subject areas.

Federal money funds the services, from which parents can choose.

For entertainment, Jones said a group of approximately 20 West Primary School kindergarten students has prepared a surfer themed song-and-dance performance.

They boys and girls will perform their act in the cafeteria, where parents can enjoy a light dinner and browse the vendor fair.

Jones said she has been impressed with past Parent Universities and expects a larger turn out tonight.

Arrival time is 5:30, the break-off sessions will begin at 5:45, and dinner and entertainment is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
