PEARL — The Natchez High track athletes were ready to go on Saturday in the MHSAA Class 6A State meet at Pearl High School.
But Mother Nature stepped in and put a halt to things before the Bulldog runners could get going.
Because of a downpour that hit Mississippi on Saturday, the meet was suspended.
Events are scheduled to resume at 2 p.m. Monday.
A few of the meet’s events were completed, but most of them were not able to be run because of the wet weather.
Natchez High has four track athletes competing in the state meet.
Jeremy Davis will compete in the long jump, the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash.
Davis finished in first place in the long jump in the South State meet.
Justin Hamilton will compete in the shot put while Damion Taylor will be competing in the 800-meter run.
The lone female track athlete representing Natchez High is Alicia Wimley, who will compete in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes as well as the triple jump.
Wimley finished in first place in the three running events at the South State meet.
The top four finishers in each event in South State qualified for the State meet.
