Vidalia — Motorists in the area of Leo Ivy Road and Palm Street in Vidalia should be on the lookout for a new three-way stop sign to be installed today.

Vidalia Alderman Jon Betts said residents near the intersection are concerned about speeding in the area, which could be curtailed with the placement of the stop sign.

The board unanimously approved the motion to place a sign at the intersection.

Larry Walters from Louisiana Institute for Building Technology and Safety presented the board with a proposal to contract with his firm to administer flood plain management and building department services.

Louisiana IBTS is a not-for-profit organization. Walters said the contract, if accepted, would be at no cost to the city and Louisiana IBTS would collect fees from permits and inspections done by the office.

Presently the City of Vidalia has a working partnership with Rapides Parish to provide the services Louisiana IBTS would provide, City Manager Kenneth Walker said.

Mayor Hyram Copeland advised Walters the board would discuss the matter and be in further contact with him.

The board also voted unanimously to award River City Hydraulics with the bid for a garbage truck.
