NATCHEZ — The masked man who robbed a Natchez bank Monday still has his freedom, but police say they are closing in.
Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said investigators have developed several reliable leads in the robbery of the U.S. 61 North branch of Britton & Koontz Bank.
“We have several strong active leads that are being worked right now,” Mullins said. “The investigation is continuing.”
Shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, a man wearing a mask and with his hands covered entered the lobby of the bank and demanded money from the tellers.
The robber said he had a gun but never revealed the weapon and left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.
Investigators believe the robber left the bank on foot and fled behind the Adams County Health Department where he was driven from the scene in a light blue Mercury Topaz or Ford Taurus.
After the bank robbery, officers searched the U.S. 61 North and Morgantown Road areas, but Mullins said as of Monday afternoon the car had not been located.
No one was hurt in the robbery.
