FERRIDAY — Basketball is a game played by five people on a team.

So it’s never a good situation when one team has just two players on the court.

But that’s exactly what happened Thursday night in Adams County Christian’s 67-40 victory over Huntington.

The Hounds, which dressed just seven players, had five of those players foul out in the fourth quarter, leaving just two players to play the final 3:53.

The two players did pretty well, as the Rebels only outscored the Hounds 5-3 down the stretch, thanks in part to a clock that ran continuously.

“I’ve never been in that situation before as a coach,” ACCS coach Rick Fife said. “It was a tough situation to be in. I’ve never coached against just two players before.”

But even when Huntington had five players on the court, the Hounds had trouble stopping the Rebels, especially on the offensive and defensive glass.

ACCS had a big rebounding advantage in the game, consistently getting second and third chances to score after misses.

“We played really well on defense and rebounded the ball very well tonight,” Fife said. “Rebounding paid big dividends for us tonight.”

ACCS led 11-3 after the first quarter and upped its lead to 28-7 late in the second quarter before Huntington made a run to try and get back in the game.

The Hounds outscored the Rebels 14-3 over the remainder of the second quarter and first two minutes of the third quarter to cut ACCS’ lead to 31-21.

“Having a week off had something to do with that,” Fife said. “We hadn’t played a game in a while and we were a little off. But we recovered and showed what we were capable of doing.”

The Rebels recovered from their lull and quickly expanded the lead back out to 45-23 over the next three minutes and were never threatened again.

The Rebels improved to 6-5 with the win and opens district play tonight when they travel to face Silliman.

Lee Swinney led ACCS with 17 points while Dillon Johnson had 14 and James Moffett added 11.

The Adams County Christian Lady Rebels had no problem disposing of the Lady Hounds early in a 38-point thrashing.

The Lady Rebels led 17-6 after the first quarter and took a 31-10 lead into the halftime locker room.

ACCS then outscored Huntington 16-2 in the third quarter before cruising to the victory in the final eight minutes.

The Lady Rebels’ defense didn’t allow Hunting to score more than six points in any quarter, and allowed the Lady Hounds to score just four points in the second half.

ACCS improved its record to 13-4 with the win.

Taylor Welch led the Lady Rebels with 13 points while Marlee Wadsworth chipped in with 12.

Huntington was led by Abi Brown with five points and Allie Booth with four.
